Malaysia Shines at the 42nd Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO) 2025
We are proud to announce Malaysia’s debut participation in the 42nd Balkan Mathematical Olympiad, held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina from 25–30 April 2025 — a historic milestone after years of careful planning and preparation.
And what a debut it was! Our team brought home:
Two Silver Medals – Kong Hoi Mun & Avan Lim Zenn Ee
Two Bronze Medals – Chia Ming Han & Tan Rui Xuen
Also representing Malaysia were Gan Lih Ying and Darien Afzal Bin Mohd Azlin, who gave a commendable effort in this highly competitive international stage.

This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Malaysian Mathematical Olympiad program. Moving forward, we are working towards officially integrating BMO as part of the IMONST pathway, allowing our top students to represent Malaysia in either the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (BMO) or the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
