Malaysian participation in IMO started in 1994 when two officers from the Ministry of Education attended as an observer. The first team from Malaysia participated in IMO 1995 in Canada. Since then, Malaysia has participated in all subsequent IMOs.
As of IMO 2025, Malaysia has won 6 Gold, 20 Silver, and 38 Bronze medals at the IMO, as well as 43 Honourable Mentions.
