The Malaysian Mathematical Olympiad Committee is pleased to announce the outstanding achievements of the Malaysian delegation at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2026), held in Shanghai, China.
Team Malaysia achieved the following results:
- 1 Gold Medal
- 3 Silver Medals
- 1 Bronze Medal
- 1 Honourable Mention
With a total team score of 142 points, Malaysia finished 19th overall among all participating countries, marking the country’s best-ever overall ranking at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
The members of Team Malaysia and their achievements are as follows:

Highlights of Malaysia’s Achievement at IMO 2026
1. Malaysia’s seventh Gold Medal in IMO history
Ho Janson’s Gold Medal marks Malaysia’s seventh Gold Medal since the country’s participation in the International Mathematical Olympiad.
2. Malaysia enters the top 20 for the first time
With a final ranking of 19th overall, Malaysia has achieved its highest-ever team ranking at the International Mathematical Olympiad and, for the first time in its history, finished among the top 20 participating countries.
3. An outstanding IMO debut for two team members
Both Tan Rui Xuen and Chia Ming Han made their International Mathematical Olympiad debut this year and each returned with a Silver Medal, marking an exceptional achievement in their first participation at the world’s premier international mathematics competition for pre-university students.
4. A new national record for Malaysia
Team Malaysia’s total score of 142 points surpassed the previous national record of 139 points, which was set just one year earlier at IMO 2025.
The Malaysian Mathematical Olympiad Committee extends its heartfelt congratulations to all six members of Team Malaysia for their outstanding achievements and dedication.
This success is the result of the collective efforts and unwavering support of many individuals and organisations. This achievement belongs not only to the six students who represented Malaysia in Shanghai, but also to everyone who has played a part in their journey.
